What is pavement engineering?
Reveal/Hide Answer
It is a branch of Civil Engineering which uses tried and tested and innovative techniques (including computer modelling) with the ultimate aim of improving the quality of road, airfield and other types of pavements. It is most important to achieve this increased durability in a cost effective manner on bituminous bound (blacktop), cementitious (concrete) and unbound (granular) pavements, to provide clients with a value engineered solution.
What is asset management, and how does it relate to highways?
Reveal/Hide Answer
This is best described by others – notably "Asset management is a strategic approach that identifies the optimal allocation of resources for the management, operation, preservation and enhancement of the highway infrastructure to meet the needs of current and future customers." (County Surveyors' Society, 2004). In other words, clients need to understand that their highway, including its structure and items such as the associated street furniture are assets which are subject to deterioration over time, and need constant inspection and maintenance planning to ensure their longevity until eventual replacement.
I am confused by seemingly constant changes in terminology within the industry, and the constant acronyms that are banded about. Can you help us?

How long will my pavement last?
Reveal/Hide Answer
Headscarves and crystal balls do not normally fall within the range of our services, as they tend not to attract repeat business! Seriously, we can provide realistic advice on the likely modes of failure within your pavement structure, but as always, the quality of the answer we provide will depend on the quality of the information that can be provided to us, and which we can glean from any investigatory works.
And what about recycling of road pavements and materials?
Reveal/Hide Answer

The prices will vary according to the type of work required, and the location. Please give us a call to discuss details.
Does your company carry out pavement testing such as Deflectograph, SCRIM, SCANNER and FWD?

Not directly. We have very good links with other supply chain partners and would procure these services at minimal additional cost to ensure that clients' budgets are kept within realistic and affordable levels. The same would apply to any laboratory testing required.
